An Artist's Meadow Garden

Los Altos Hills, CA

As artists, the homeowners of this 1-acre property wanted a garden that would reflect their love of plants, art, and nature. They wanted the garden to blend with the simple aesthetic of their home, as well as with the surrounding hillside while having minimal impact on the natural environment.

We replaced an unused and water-thirsty traditional turf lawn with a meadow made of carex pansa, resulting in a lower water bill and requiring less maintenance. Surrounding the meadow are robust garden beds and terraces that overflow with a mix of drought and deer-resistant Mediterranean, native and edible plants. The result is a unique and engaging garden that stimulates the senses year-round.
